Vermin

from A Brief Smile by Peter Turk

/

lyrics

The afternoon sun,
Is sinking slow
You long to feel its
gentle glow.

The stars come out
Or so you’d guess
The knock on the door
Gets you dressed.

They lead you through
The narrow halls
You hold your hands out
Against the wall

You hear the shaking
Of the keys
It brings you down on
To your knees

They shift to you
But look right through
The number
They’re seeing to.

And you are gone
You must comply
Another vermin
From the sky

They think it’s right
It feels so wrong
It fell on deaf ears all along.

You call again
It echoes out,
Another need,
You’ll be left without.

Creeping steps,
Form slippery slopes
When fear is granted
Too much rope

They’ll come for you,
And kick right through
The door you’ve been clinging to

Until they’re gone
Don’t make a sound
Another vermin
From underground

They think it’s right
It feels so wrong
Why do they have to go along?

And you are gone
You must comply
Another vermin
From the sky

They can’t decide
What’s right from wrong
It fell on deaf ears all along.
